I agree [Richa: It seems like supreme court is running the country] that right now the role played but President of India is very small, but if you look at the kind of presidents that we were having since independence were acting as a ‘stamp’, it is not because they were not capable, but because they were elected by some party, they would support that party, would pass all the bills and pass some ordinance. If you look at last 2 (including Dr. Kalam) you will see the image is changing, they are more actively participating, and even have rejected bills (though they had to change eventually). I am trying to say is, none of our presidents tried hard to innovate, take more powers but if presidents decides that there should be reforms he can take few initiatives, and eventually in few years they might get more power. It all depends on how hard they want to try, and therefore we should have someone who can think sensibly and lead us. I guess Dr. Kalam suits the job very well.
PS: My opinion, no offense to any president or presidential candidate.
