It’s March
March – the month of exams, colors and most importantly start of F1 season. I waited for March since I was a kid not for the exams, but for the holidays that used to follow.
Holi was a scary thing for me; I would hide inside the house and pretend to study for my exam. I like Holi but the way people have turned it now using chemicals instead of gulal. I like to play with water, water-gun, dance around the ‘holi fire’ and going to friends places to wish and have sweets. Those days are also over, after I moved here, friends circle has shrunk, most of the people I know do now even understand the meaning of Holi.
One thing that has not changed is love for F1, every year the wait will start from season end and I will count days. This year I thought I will keep myself involved by blogging about it, reading more technical stuff, finding some answers that have been bugging me and was a bit successful too and Force India helped a bit too. Now it’s time to get serious, teams are prepared, practice has already started and in next 48 hours we will have result of first qualifying. This season promises to be much more entertaining with Alonso, Hamilton, Kimi and Massa trying to outperform each other and teams like Williams and BMW pressurizing Ferraris and McLarens to give away top spot. A lot of question going on in mind, Can Alonso bring back the magic to Renault? How much has McLaren improved after using non-ferrari-data? Kimi or Massa?… Just have to wait for 2 more days.
PS: I am thinking of some way in which I don’t have to flood everyone twitter page with my F1 tweets, any suggestion? Can we use @f1updates as BB and discuss it there, with same arrangement as we use for @infy. Can I borrow the same script?
Champions :)
We are the T 20 World Champions
We are the U 19 World Champions
When will we be V 18 Champions?
Yet Another Doping Scandal
Martina Hingis’ exit following doping accusations has shocked me. After Marion Jones, Jan Ullrich-Ivan Basso, Shoaib Akhtar-Mohammad Aif I was convinced that anyone related to sports might be involved somehow, but Martina Hingis was a shock to me. I am still now convinced that she can do it.
Why do people do it, when they know that someday they will be caught, disgraced, all medals would be taken back, records would be erased. Fans, who treated them like heros will be hurt. Recently I read after Marion Jones probe was over, US Olympic Association sent apology letter to all participating countries. Why don’t these guys think about their country?
F1 scandals are nowhere compared to doping, it hurts much more, I feel like being cheated.
Influence of Social Bookmarking on Search Results – Experiment
Posted by veetrag in Uncategorized on October 23, 2007
For last few months one question has been bugging me, how Digging any items affects the search results. The doubt came when I first started using Digg, I submitted one URL from my blog to see if I get some more traffic. And in two days I realized THE link was appearing in top 10 results on Google when search key words were same as my Digg story. I tried to analyze more but could not get proper statistics.
I tried to experiment again, this time I used our F1 blog as crawling rate is set to average ( once in fortnight), I used ‘Force India Formula1 Logo’ that I captured from TV and posted on the blog. At the same time I submitted the story to Digg. In just nine hours I got more than 60 hits (unusual for that blog) and it was the top result on Google. According to my calculation, it would take at least 7 more days to for Google to crawl the latest content, then how was out post on the top?
I agree it was latest (but not sensational as compared to rest of F1 info) information, but still I never got that kind of response before. I searched for more such information and found few useful links:
Social Media’s Direct Influence on Search Engine Ranking, provides the info and patents taken by Google/Yahoo in utilizing the power of social bookmarking for better results.
The Digg effect, web2.0 search engine optimization, performs one experiment and proves how search results can be influenced.
I want to get some more statistics by doing some experiment, since we have search, bookmarking and blogs in place, we can easily get the information. I don’t know about nutch how much information it provides, algorithms are optimized for SEOs or not. So we can do our experiment online too. We publish one story (fairly interesting) to a new blog, Digg it, reddit, put it on Del.icio.us , Ma.gnolia and see how easy/hard is it to make a “normal” story popular.
Anyone interested?
Update: Just found out someone submitted it to humsurfer too. Don’t know anything about humsurfer, and Google will crawl it or not

Alonso-Hamilton: Interesting Deadlock
Posted by veetrag in Uncategorized on October 10, 2007
While checking out which one would be the most interesting combination that will create the deadlock for f1 championship this year I found this:
If Alonso finishes 2nd and Hamilton Finishes 5th Alonso and Hamilton will have same points as well as same 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place finishes. So title will be decide by more 5th places, and Lewis Hamilton will win because he just got one extra 5th place
Shanghai GP – Kimi all the way!

- Congratulations to all TIFOSIs on InfyBlogs for 200th win and 600th podium finish for Ferrari.
- It was a awesome race, with all my ‘predictions’ coming true, I can’t believe it happened.
- Did any of you guys noticed during presentation, there was only one McLaren teammate celebrating, rest all were missing. That guy was surrounded by a lot of Ferrari teammates
- “We weren’t at all fazed about Kimi; we didn’t care about Kimi; we weren’t racing Kimi; he (Lewis) was racing Fernando,” the team boss said. Kimi winning and Lewis coming second was adequate – but it just didn’t work out that way.” This is really bad from McLaren’s part, no one cares about his win or loose in a positive way, everyone is referring him from Hamilton’s perspective.
- When was the last time in F1 that everyone was trying to take blame for a failure and team boss was replying, it wasn’t anyones fault, its just something that always happens in F1… ha ha can understand the frustration. Imagine same thing happens to Hamilton in Brazil, Ron will go crazy
Formula 1 updates: My Views

This is an excellent article from BBC discussing the recent controversy boiling in McLaren team.
Another thing that I am not happy with is that Ferrari is still pushing the spy scandal and wants to take it further. I guess the fine and punishment is fair enough and most importantly it has stopped any further damage to the game. I guess what Ferrari wanted (The constructor’s crown) they have got it and should stop now for sake of the game. (I know none of the TIFOSIs would be happy with me)

Predictions prove that Kimi still have chance to win the world championship, but if Hamilton and Alonso always finish fourth or below and Kimi always finish first. It would be very hard to keep McLarens out on fourth always, so
How ugly can it get?

After following the Ferrari-McLaren espionage controversy I was feeling tired, but today when I read all new kind of allegations I am dejected, disappointed and sorry for the game. It all started with press reporting that the main aim of this scandal is to target Ron Dennis and FIA wants him to resign, and he has been offered this kind of deal too. This was followed by FIA denying any such thing.
But the most shocking news was that Ferrari and McLaren might have an out of court settlement before WMSC hearing. Till now Renault boss Flavio was completely supporting Ferrari to have sanctions against McLaren but some reports suggest Dennis has some evidences against Renault and if he reveals French team will be expelled out of championship. (Source)
In all this we see that English press is not commenting on anything now unlike when this controversy began. Along with the statement by Hamilton “we might be out of job next week” makes me think there is something seriously wrong somewhere. It is also suggested that Alonso is the whistleblower this time and this was evident at Monza after he finished the race.
Sir Williams is worried about the sponsorship loss due to scandal. But no one cares about the F1 fans and what they want. Fans want real competition without scandals, where just mechanics and drivers are involved instead of lawyers and courtrooms. It’s a shame on the game.
News: Probably no Indian driver for Spyker in 2008, a big blow for Narain.
